Tell us about yourself:
I’m passionate about living sustainably and using my creative expression to bring a little more magic and sacred energy into day to day life. I was born in the New Mexico desert, but moved to Hawai’i when I was 17 to live in some off-the-grid communities and I fell in love with working on the land and growing plants as food and medicine! I completed a Permaculture Design Course there and since then I’ve been immersed in studying herbalism, permaculture, beekeeping, etc! Throughout that time I’ve also been exploring my artistic offerings and have been deeply inspired by sacred geometry and indigenous art. I’ve been selling my art for 3 years now and I’m so excited to see where it takes me!

What are your offerings?
I’m currently offering my handmade chakra flags, moon phase flags, prints of my chakra paintings, lots of patches (embroidered and printed), palo santo bundles, beautiful labradorite pieces and a couple of original paintings. Everything that’s in my etsy shop is offered with the intent to bring more beauty and magic to you and your life and I make sure to infuse everything with lots of love!

I am also working on launching my blog in the next month or so, which will be a mixture of information about botanical skin care, herbalism and plant allies, permaculture as a spiritual practice, and so much more!

What is your favorite season?
Summer is definitely my favorite season. There is such a carefree and abundant vibe in the air - plants are flowering, forests are lush, there are lots of festivals and gatherings and I feel like everyone is celebrating!

What makes your spirit buzz?
Swimming in the ocean, being immersed in wild nature, being drenched in sunlight and paying attention to magical little synchronicities that happen every day :)

What is your relationship with the moon?
The moon reminds me to connect with my feminine energy and to embrace darkness. On the new moon I focus on purifying and clarifying my intentions and on the full moon I focus on gratitude and abundance!

Your favorite motto/quote:
“Nature loves courage. You make the commitment and nature will respond to that commitment by removing impossible obstacles. Dream the impossible dream and the world will not grind you under, it will lift you up. This is the trick. This is what all these teachers and philosophers who really counted, who really touched the alchemical gold, this is what they understood. This is the shamanic dance in the waterfall. This is how magic is done. By hurling yourself into the abyss and discovering it's a feather bed.”
― Terence McKenna

What's on your altar right now?
I’m playing with the concept that I am an altar! Its so easy for me to get wrapped up in my creative process and completely forget about my physical wellbeing, so I am working on mindfully adorning and cherishing my physical self.

I also love creating little altars and offerings everywhere I go, when outside I make small nature mandalas and indoors my altars are usually a collection of my favorite crystals, feathers and herbal medicines :)

Favorite spiritual books?
Sacred Plant Medicine by Stephen Buhner and Creating On Purpose by Anodea Judith

Today we have a gorgeous offering from Jody Sky Rogers: Eco-Intuitive writer. In honor of releasing her book Wild Essence, she is giving one copy away! Read below all about her process and intention for this gorgeous book and comment below to enter! One winner will be announced, Dec. 28th!

Blessings, Marissa xoxo.

This book is about coming home to your Self and connecting with the creative and divine essence within. It explores how you can loosen the grips of the barriers that diminish you and keep you trapped, barriers that disconnect you from your inner essence. So many women, myself included, struggle with both the external and internal shackles that set out to tame and cage their inner essence. Drawing from my own experiences, I’ve recognized the need to remind the women of the world whose souls have been broken in to submission, that they are essentially wild creatures of profound beauty who are meant to be and express all of who they are, not lurk in the shadows. You have incredible gifts to share that are of great value to all of us. Self-expression and self-realization are your birthright.

All of my writing is stems from personal experiences, my need to heal my soul and my desire to share the inspiring spiritual messages that I unearth along the way. The seed for the Wild Essence book germinated when I asked myself two questions, ‘What makes me feel free and uninhibited?’ and ‘What stands in the way of me being who I am fully?’

When I examined what stands in my way, it was very clear that my barriers stem from the stories and beliefs created by my negative experiences that I still project onto myself internally. On the subject of what makes me feel free, along with noticing that I am most at peace in moments of stillness, when I live from my heart space or when I focus on the things or experiences that inspire me, I also recognized that I feel most alive when I’m immersed in the beauty of the wild Earth. I find so much inspiration and healing from Mother Earth. Through my connection with Nature my soul is nurtured. I’ve become acquainted with the idea of the Divine Feminine and discovered the love of the Goddess in the wilderness. It occurred to me that perhaps the wilderness makes me feel so alive and attuned to Spirit because it is an outward projection of the inner essence alive within the center of my being – my wild essence. The wild Earth is a reflection of the abundance, vibrancy and untamed nature of our unlimited inner spirit. For that reason, wilderness became my metaphor for spiritual peace and freedom. This book therefore also includes intricately woven threads of wild whispers, insights and analogies from Nature.

Wild Essence puts forward that walking a spiritual path and reconnecting with the inner wilderness is like an un-taming of a domesticated heart and restoring one’s soul to its freest and most natural form. I share some of the experiences, lessons and helpful approaches that have brought me to a place of healing, peace and freedom on my journey with the intention to assist you on your own journey as you reclaim a deeper connection with your inner wilds.

In addition, each chapter therefore includes positive affirmations/mantras and meditations to help you tap into your heart space and reconnect with the magical expanses of your inner wilds.

Tell us about yourself:

I am a certified holistic heath and lifestyle coach, mama of two, lover to one, artist and cook. I adore the life I have created surrounded by the people I love. It wasn't always this way for me and not too long ago I was living in serious sadness and pain because I was not living in alignment with my soul. My path to wellness and ultimately my career changed everything for me. Now I support other women, both privately and in group settings, while they discover how to design the life they want starting with the food on their plate and the space they call home.

What is your favorite season?

I think I like the seasonal cusps the best. I can feel the building energy and anticipation as it waxes and wanes with the season. In spring the damp earth, the budding flowers and haze of green gets me every time. I also adore that shift from summer to fall..burnt grass, hot sun and chilly air stirs my soul big time. My body also bends with those sensory cues, I begin to crave more raw, more fruit and lighter fare in the spring and I happily kick off the soup and stew season in the fall. There is definitely something wild and primal about being tuned in to the earth this way.

What inspires your creations/offerings?

Oh Mother Nature for sure. She is my muse and I never tire of her. When I need refueling I fill up on walks on the beach, hikes in the hills and dips in the rivers. I am constantly in awe of the variety of foods nature provides us with, it's crazy that it all just exists for us in the first place, no?! The other night I made this chicken stuffed with lemons and herbs and surrounded it with chopped sweet potatoes, onions, celery root, squash and parsnips. It all roasted together in one pan and it was so delicious and it filled my with such gratitude. That feeling of abundance and wonder and magic is something I like to infuse all my work with.

What makes your spirit buzz?

Bringing the elements inside. Embodying them and allowing their essence to permeate our lives with magic. We can do this through design in our homes, the work and art we create, the food we eat and how we honor and heal our bodies.

What is your relationship with the moon:

One of complete awe. I live by the ocean and I see her power first hand on the land and waters around us. I feel deeply moved by her mysterious ways, yet haven't quite reached true understanding. I may never and that's pretty OK with me.

Your favorite motto/quote:

I don't think I have just one. I usually carry around a sentiment, a quote or something meaningful I have read in my mind for a bit until it fades and another one finds it's place. I just love the author Elizabeth Gilbert of Eat, Pray, Love fame. I follow her on Facebook and she said something a few weeks back in regards to her presenting at the Oprah's The Life You Want Tour that has kinda stuck to my ribs and become a compass of sorts...
" If I turn this into a big drama or a thrill ride, then I'm making it all about me. Which isn't fair to anybody here, and won't serve anybody here. And I came here to serve....Do what they need you to do. Be who you came here to be. There's no higher way to honor these people than to bring them your most dignified self."

For me the strongest part of what she is saying is stop getting in your own way, you have gifts you are meant to share, stop worrying and start sharing. I just love it!

What's on your altar right now?

Right now it's a giant citrine and a small amethyst for abundance. A small candle for remembering, some sage resting in a seashell for clearing, a lost key for possibility and hope and branch with leaves just beginning to yellow to honor the seasonal shift.

Favorite spiritual book?

I usually have my nose in cookbooks or interior design tomes but I recently re-read Chocolat and was enraptured yet again by the magic and mystery of food and religion and it's effect on people of all beliefs.
